NexaPay is a unified mobile money payment gateway built by Elicate Technologies Limited, a fintech company headquartered in Ndola, Zambia. We give developers and merchants a single, powerful API to accept digital payments across Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia β without the complexity of integrating each mobile network separately.
NexaPay was born out of a simple frustration: building a business in Southern Africa meant navigating a maze of separate mobile money APIs, incomplete documentation, unpredictable uptime, and no unified way to collect payments across borders. Every developer integrating payments in this region faced the same challenges β and every merchant felt the cost of that complexity.
In 2022, the founding team at Elicate Technologies Limited set out to change that. Based out of Ndola, Zambia β a city at the heart of the Copperbelt β we began building what we wished had existed: a clean, reliable, developer-first payment gateway designed specifically for Southern Africa.
We spent our first year deep in integrations β direct API partnerships with MTN Zambia, Airtel Money, EcoCash Zimbabwe, Orange Botswana, and MTC Namibia. We built redundancy, failover routing, real-time monitoring, and a merchant dashboard that made sense. We stress-tested everything. Then we opened to merchants.
Today NexaPay processes over 1 million transactions per year across four countries, supports 1,000+ active merchants, and maintains a 99.9% uptime guarantee. We are just getting started.
Our mission is to remove the friction from digital payments in Southern Africa β giving every developer, merchant, and business the tools to accept mobile money as easily as they would swipe a card anywhere else in the world.
We believe that access to reliable, affordable, and developer-friendly payment infrastructure is a catalyst for economic growth. When a small business in Lusaka can add a payment button to their website in an afternoon, when a marketplace in Harare can collect from customers across the region, when a SaaS startup in Gaborone can charge subscriptions in local currency β the entire ecosystem wins.
Payments should be infrastructure, not a barrier. That is the principle behind every design decision we make at NexaPay.
We achieve this mission by maintaining direct integrations with all major mobile money networks in our supported countries, providing best-in-class documentation, keeping our API simple, and pricing fairly β with no hidden fees and automatic volume discounts.
Our vision is to be the payment layer that powers the digital economy of Sub-Saharan Africa. We see a future where any business on the continent β regardless of size β can access the same quality of payment infrastructure available to Fortune 500 companies, at a fraction of the cost.
We are building toward a Southern Africa where:
- Every mobile device is a point of sale and a payment terminal
- Cross-border payments between SADC countries are instant and cheap
- Small businesses can compete globally because payment collection is never the bottleneck
- Developers in Africa build world-class products without fighting fragmented APIs
- Financial inclusion reaches the last mile β rural merchants, informal traders, gig workers
NexaPay is currently live in four countries. Our roadmap includes expansion to South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique by 2027, and a full Pan-African coverage by 2030.
Everything we build and every decision we make is guided by five core values that define what NexaPay stands for.
Developer First
We design for the developers who integrate us. Clear documentation, predictable APIs, fast sandbox access, and honest error messages β always.
Radical Transparency
No hidden fees. No surprise charges. No marketing speak. We price simply, communicate openly, and share our uptime and incident history publicly.
African Context First
We don't bolt Africa onto a product designed for Europe. Our infrastructure, fraud models, compliance approach, and currency handling are built ground-up for Southern African realities.
Relentless Reliability
Payments cannot fail. We invest heavily in redundancy, multi-network failover, 24/7 monitoring, and rapid incident response. Reliability is not a feature β it is the product.
Security Without Compromise
PCI DSS Level 1, TLS 1.3, 3D Secure, real-time fraud detection. Security is built into everything we do β not added as an afterthought.
2-Second Payments
Average transaction time across all networks
PCI DSS Level 1
Highest certification β audited annually
